What Does a Hyundai-Certified Pre-Owned Warranty Cover?
What Does a Hyundai-Certified Pre-Owned Warranty Cover?
A Hyundai-certified pre-owned warranty is beneficial if you want to protect your used car purchase. Learn what it covers here.
If you're in the market for a car, you may think that a budget of $25,000 or so won't get you far. After all, new ones cost nearly twice as much. Indeed, in November 2023, new vehicles sold in the U.S. had an average transaction price of $48,247!
We're here to tell you that with your budget, you don't have to settle for a used, older vehicle without a warranty. You can buy a certified pre-owned car from a Hyundai dealer and enjoy lengthy coverages.
So, what exactly does the Hyundai-certified pre-owned warranty cover? Are these perks good enough to make buying a Hyundai CPO worth it?
This guide will teach you just how comprehensive the Hyundai CPO warranty is. So keep reading, as it can help you decide if buying a CPO is right for you.
Hyundai-Certified Pre-Owned Warranty for CPO Eligibility
Hyundai warrants and guarantees that only vehicles that meet high standards become certified. This includes being newer than six model years. They must also have fewer than 80,000 miles.
Only Hyundai models that meet those requirements can go to the next step: a 173-point inspection.
CARFAX Vehicle History Report
The first item on the 173-point inspection list involves getting a CARFAX Vehicle History Report. It lets Hyundai dealerships confirm each vehicle has no frame damage and a non-branded title. The latter helps ensure a car hasn't been in a total loss accident or damaged in another way, such as by flood.
There are many water-damaged vehicles in the U.S.: 400,000 in 2022 alone. Then came Hurricane Ian, which damaged an additional estimated 350,000+ cars.
So, with Hyundai's screening process, you can rest easy knowing you won't buy a water-damaged car.
What the 173-Point Inspection Covers
Hyundai vehicles with a failed CARFAX® Vehicle History Report can no longer get certified. However, those with good reports and clean titles can complete the checkpoints. These cover the following:
- *Road test to verify the engine, transmission, brakes, etc. work properly
- *Exterior checks to confirm the body has no damage or defects
- *Inspections of all critical interior components (e.g., lights, seatbelts, gauge, etc.)
- *Mechanical checks
- *Monitoring of tires and wheels
- *Necessary maintenance
Only factory-trained Hyundai technicians can perform all those steps. They must also recondition, fix, or replace any item that doesn't meet the standards. If they must change a part, they must use only Hyundai OEM products.
Remaining Original New Vehicle Limited Warranty
A 5-year/60,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty comes with every purchase of a new Hyundai. This is transferrable to a new owner if the vehicle becomes part of the CPO program.
As mentioned above, all certified pre-owned Hyundais can be no older than six model years. So, many CPO Hyundai models still hold a valid original New Vehicle Limited Warranty. You can then enjoy the remaining portion if you buy a used car certified by Hyundai.
Say that the CPO vehicle you buy is a 2022 Hyundai Tucson with only 20,000 miles, first bought in 2022. Its warranty is still good for about three years or the next 40,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Hyundai's New Vehicle Limited Warranty covers repairs or replacements of certain OEM parts. These include the radio, audio, and infotainment systems. It also covers other components, such as the paint and battery, but only for the first three years or 36,000 miles.
Powertrain Warranty
You'll also get a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty when you buy a CPO Hyundai. This begins from zero miles and the original in-service date.
With this, Hyundai will cover repairs or replacements of critical engine parts. These include the following:
- *Cylinder block/head and all internal parts
- *Manifolds
- *Timing gears, chain, and cover
- *Gaskets and seals
- *The oil pump and pan assembly
- *Water pump
- *Flywheel
- *Rocker cover and engine mounts
- *Turbocharger
Hyundai will also cover repairs for transmission or transaxle components, such as:
- *Case and all internal parts
- *Front and rear axle shafts
- *Constant velocity joints
- *Front and rear hub bearings
- *Propeller shafts
- *Seals and gaskets
- *Torque converter and converter housing
- *Clutch cover and housing
- *Transfer case (AWD models)
- *Rear differential
If you have to get a covered repair, you'll only pay a $50 deductible. Then, if you need to get the same repair while still under warranty, the Hyundai dealer will waive the fee.
Roadside Assistance
While we hope you never experience a car breakdown, it can happen to anyone, and often, a flat tire is to blame. These issues are common on U.S. roads, where one tire sustains a puncture every seven seconds.
The good news is that Hyundai provides 24-hour roadside assistance to CPO owners. It's not a warranty, but this benefit lasts as long as your powertrain warranty. With this, you can depend on a Hyundai technician to rescue you and change your flat tire.
You can also call for assistance if you have a dead battery or need a jump start. Likewise, Hyundai will help you if you've accidentally locked your keys in your ride and have no access to a spare.
If you run out of gas, Hyundai has your back covered, too, and will deliver up to three gallons for free. You can get these free delivery services twice per 12-month coverage period.
Travel Benefits
You also get a Travel Breakdown Benefit that lasts as long as your powertrain warranty. If a covered problem causes your Hyundai to break down at least 150 miles from home, you can expect this to kick in. You'll get reimbursed for meals, lodging, or alternate transportation up to $100 a day for up to $500 per event.
Hyundai will also reimburse you for rental car expenses for up to $35 a day and a maximum of ten days. You can get this benefit if you must have your Hyundai CPO fixed due to warrantied repairs.
