Have you recently bought a Hyundai car? Do you want to know how to change the battery in a Hyundai key fob? Read on to learn more.

Did you know that the Hyundai Tuscon was ranked as one of the top 25 best-selling cars in 2021 by Car and Driver? We understand why! Hyundai is a great brand that offers drivers great features, including their easy-to-use key fob.

However, learning how to change the battery in a Hyundai key fob still might take some work.

A Hyundai key fob battery usually lasts around two to four years, although it varies depending on how often you use it. If you find that your key fob is no longer working as well as it used to, it's probably time to change the battery.

Although it's a relatively simple process, it's important to follow the instructions carefully to avoid damaging the key fob. Here’s what to know and what to do.

What Kind of Battery Does a Hyundai Fob Use?

Most Hyundai vehicles use a CR2032 battery in their key fobs.

The CR2032 battery is a 3-volt lithium coin cell battery that is often used in electronic devices such as calculators and watches. It has a diameter of 20 mm and a height of 3.2 mm.

This button cell battery is widely available and relatively inexpensive, making it a good choice for use in car key fobs.

Where Can You Buy a CR 2032 3V Battery?

These batteries are available for purchase at many retail stores, including drug stores, grocery stores, and department stores. Many of these stores also sell online, so it’s possible to purchase the batteries from the comfort of your own home.

Additionally, there are many websites that sell batteries, including specialty websites that sell nothing but batteries. However, when purchasing batteries online, it is important to confirm that the website is reputable and that the batteries will be shipped safely and arrive in a timely manner.

And, as a pro tip, we suggest that you double-check that it’s the right battery just to be extra sure it’ll fit your Hyundai key fob. After all, to change the battery correctly you need to be sure you have the right Hyundai key fob battery!

Step-by-Step Guide: How to Change the Battery in a Hyundai Key Fob

Have your battery ready and are ready to start changing the battery in a Hyundai key fob?

Follow these steps to change the battery in your Hyundai key fob quickly and easily (and correctly!).

Step 1: Remove the Key

Start by removing the key from the key fob. You can do this by gently pushing on the small metal circular button at the bottom of your key fob. Pull the key out and then use it to…

Step 2: Open the Key Fob

Once the key is out, use it to pry open the back of the key fob. You can do this by inserting it into the key fob gently as if you were going to store it. When it’s about ¼ of the way in, twist it to the left and the fob will pop open.

NOTE: Be sure to face the buttons downward or they’ll fall out!

Step 3: Set Aside the Fob Buttons

You’ll need to set aside the fob buttons with their plastic covering. You’re trying to get down to where you can see the circular CR2032 battery.

Step 4: Remove the Old Battery

Once the back of the key fob is open, you'll see the battery inside. Note which way the battery is facing and then remove it from the key fob by gently pulling on it. Use your key to pop it out if you need to.

Step 5: Place the New Battery

Now, you’re ready to put in the new Hyundai key fob battery! Make sure you put it in the right way and then put everything you took out back in its place.

What if Your Hyundai Key Fob Still Isn’t Working?

If you've changed the battery in your Hyundai key fob and it's still not working, there are a few other things you can try before you call for service.

First, check to see if you put the battery in correctly. This is the most common problem we encounter!

Try replacing the battery again and make sure the battery is fresh. If the light on the key fob still doesn't turn on, there may be an issue with the key fob itself and it will need to be replaced.

How to Program a Hyundai Key Fob

Now that you’ve replaced your Hyundai key fob battery, follow these steps to program your key fob.

Hyundai key fobs are simple to program, but the process will vary depending on the year and model of your vehicle.

In most cases, you can program your Hyundai key fob by following these steps:

  1. Sit in the driver's seat and close all doors
  2. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "On" position
  3. Press and hold the "Lock" button on the key fob for three seconds
  4. All doors should lock to indicate that you are in program mode
  5. Press and release the "Lock" button once (don’t hold it down)
  6. Within five seconds, press any of the other buttons on the key fob (such as "Unlock" or "Trunk").
  7. The doors should unlock to indicate that you have successfully programmed the key fob.

If this process doesn’t work, consult your owner's manual for specific instructions for your vehicle.

Find a New or Used Hyundai

Learning how to change the battery in a Hyundai key fob is pretty simple. If the steps above don’t work then you can buy a new one from a Hyundai dealer, or you can try to find a used one online.

Also, keep in mind that you may not be able to find an exact match for your car model. But as long as the key fob is compatible with your car, it should work just fine!
